Cambodia and Belgium Pledge to Strengthen Ties Ahead of 60th Diplomatic Anniversary

AKP Phnom Penh, August 6, 2026 -- Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, held a working discussion with Belgian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Michel Parys, at the Ministry on Thursday. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and excellent cooperation between the two nations. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide range of areas, including development cooperation, judicial cooperation, trade and investment, tourism, and multilateral cooperation. The Bangkok-based Belgian Ambassador informed H.E. Prak Sokhonn of the upcoming visit of Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Maxime Prévot, to Cambodia in November 2026 to attend the 20th Francophonie Summit. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure and looked forward to welcoming his Belgian counterpart. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly as 2027 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Belgium.
