Cambodia and Belgium Vow to Strengthen Friendship on 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

Cambodia and Belgium have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen and expand their friendship as they approach the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This was confirmed during a meeting between Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn and Belgian Ambassador to Cambodia Michel Parys in Phnom Penh on August 6, 2026. The discussions between the two officials focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including development cooperation, judicial cooperation, trade and investment, tourism, and multilateral cooperation. According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides highlighted the long-standing friendship and excellent cooperation between Cambodia and Belgium. Building on this strong friendship, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two kingdoms in 2027. During the meeting, Ambassador Parys also informed about the planned visit of Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot to Cambodia in November 2026 to attend the 20th Francophonie Summit. Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his pleasure in welcoming this visit to Cambodia. Furthermore, the issue of the Cambodian-Thai border dispute was also raised by the Cambodian Foreign Minister with the Belgian side, who briefed them on the recent developments regarding this matter.
