Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, and Myanmar President H.E. Min Aung Hlaing discussed bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries during a summit meeting in Phnom Penh this morning. According to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen viewed President Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Cambodia as an important contribution to further strengthening bilateral relations, which date back to the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations in 1955. The two leaders recognised that Cambodia-Myanmar relations have remained friendly and cordial throughout the past 71 years, reflecting the longstanding bonds between the two countries. For his part, H.E. Min Aung Hlaing praised Cambodia’s development progress since his previous visit to the Kingdom in 2017. The discussions covered a wide range of areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, tourism and political relations, as well as cooperation between the legislative and executive institutions of the two countries. On trade, Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that bilateral trade between Cambodia and Myanmar remained relatively modest, with the two sides seeking to increase trade volume. Bilateral trade was valued at approximately US$35 million in 2025, highlighting significant potential for further expansion. The two leaders also encouraged greater investment cooperation. H.E. Min Aung Hlaing expressed his readiness to welcome Cambodian investors to Myanmar and encouraged them to explore investment opportunities in the country. In addition, H.E. Min Aung Hlaing supported Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s initiative to establish a rice exporters’ association under the spirit of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS). The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, reaffirming the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing matters of common concern. The meeting was seen as an opportunity to further deepen the longstanding friendship and expand practical cooperation between Cambodia and Myanmar in various fields for the mutual benefit of the two peoples, said the Spokesperson.
