PHNOM PENH, Aug 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is stepping up efforts to secure a stronger role in the regional automotive supply chain as investment in wire harness manufacturing gathers pace, officials said Tuesday. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who also serves as First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), chaired a meeting reviewing progress in the sector with senior officials and executives from manufacturers operating in the Kingdom. The talks assessed overall investment trends, company production updates and operational challenges, while industry representatives tabled recommendations to boost efficiency and competitiveness. Government agencies and private sector leaders discussed practical solutions to investor concerns, underscoring Phnom Penh’s push to foster a responsive, business‑friendly environment. Chanthol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the automotive components industry, pledging continued facilitation for existing projects and encouragement of new investment. He stressed the wire harness sector’s strategic role in shifting Cambodia’s industrial base from labor‑intensive production toward more skilled, technology‑driven manufacturing. He instructed ministries to work closely with companies to resolve operational issues swiftly, aiming to sharpen Cambodia’s competitiveness in regional and global supply chains.
