Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Strengthened for New Era

General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, paid a state visit to the Russian Federation from September 7 to 9, 2026, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation. During the visit, General Secretary and President To Lam and President Putin witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between the two countries. Various documents concerning cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation were exchanged at this ceremony. During the talks, it was confirmed that the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries would be further strengthened into a new phase. It was particularly emphasized that new thinking and approaches are needed for cooperation in the field of science and technology. The promotion of strong cooperation in the economic field was also an important agenda item. This visit demonstrates Vietnam's stance to maintain and strengthen its relations with Russia amidst its multifaceted diplomacy in the international arena. Under Vietnam's one-party system, foreign policy is pursued from a perspective that prioritizes national stability and economic development. Strengthening relations with Russia is significant for continuing cooperation in areas that Vietnam strategically considers important, such as energy and military technology. Meanwhile, Vietnam conducts diplomacy that balances its national interests, taking into account international developments, especially its relationship with China.
