Vietnam-Russia Summit: Strengthening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

As part of a state visit to the Russian Federation, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on the afternoon of September 9 (local time). Following the talks, both leaders addressed a joint press conference, expressing their views on the further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. During the meeting, cooperation documents between the two nations were exchanged, with General Secretary and President To Lam and President Putin witnessing the ceremony. Emphasis was placed on promoting cooperation in the field of science and technology, with a shared understanding that "cooperation in science and technology requires new thinking and new approaches." This collaboration is expected to become a new pillar of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia. Vietnam, pursuing economic growth under its one-party system, is diversifying its foreign relations on the international stage. Strengthening ties with Russia holds strategic significance for Vietnam amidst strained relations with Western countries. Furthermore, for Vietnam, which has a complex relationship with China, its ties with Russia are a crucial element in considering the regional balance of power. This summit reaffirmed the substantive cooperative relationship based on the traditional friendly ties between the two countries, taking into account the current international situation, and outlined the direction for future cooperation.
