ICOMOS Experts Survey Ancient Temples in Chiang Mai for World Heritage Nomination

In Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, an expert team from ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites), an advisory body to UNESCO, has conducted an on-site survey of ancient temples aiming for World Heritage status. According to reports on August 5th, local time, the expert team stayed in Chiang Mai and carried out detailed surveys and information gathering on three historically significant temples that are candidates for registration. This survey is part of a crucial process to nominate Chiang Mai's historical architectural complex for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This on-site investigation by ICOMOS experts is an indispensable step in evaluating the current condition, preservation status, and universal value of the candidate sites. The expert team is understood to have collected data from multiple perspectives, including the architectural styles, historical background, and community relations of each temple. Chiang Mai, once the prosperous capital of the Lanna Kingdom, possesses numerous unique cultural and historical heritages.
