ICOMOS Experts Arrive in Chiang Mai for World Heritage Site Assessment

A team of experts from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has arrived in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. The team is scheduled to immediately commence on-site investigations of eight cultural heritage sites within Chiang Mai city that are aiming for UNESCO World Heritage inscription. This assessment represents a crucial step towards gaining international recognition for Chiang Mai's historical and cultural significance and its inclusion on the World Heritage List. The objective evaluation by ICOMOS experts will significantly influence the final decision by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, prompting Thai authorities and stakeholders to closely monitor the investigation's progress. While the eight heritage sites targeted for investigation each tell a story of Chiang Mai's rich history and culture, specific names of the sites and details regarding the investigation process have not yet been disclosed.
