Suspect Arrested in Phnom Penh for Creating Fake Telegram Accounts to Defraud Citizens

In Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, a suspect has been arrested for creating fake Telegram accounts and impersonating police officials to defraud citizens. The arrested individual has been identified as Sok Sovannavisa, a 35-year-old male. The suspect allegedly created fake accounts on Telegram, using the names of the chief of the Toul Kork district police and several other police station chiefs. He then allegedly used these accounts to contact citizens and engage in fraudulent activities, swindling them out of money. Specialized forces from the Toul Kork District Police Inspectorate, in collaboration with the Mean Chey District Police Inspectorate, apprehended the suspect at 3:02 PM on September 11th. The arrest took place at Room 2, House No. 26, Concrete Road, Group 9, Prek Ta Kong 3 Village, Chak Angre Leu Commune, Mean Chey District, Phnom Penh. At the time of arrest, the suspect was in possession of one itel mobile phone. The suspect and the seized mobile phone are currently being held temporarily at the Toul Kork District Police Inspectorate for further legal proceedings. This incident highlights the growing trend of fraud utilizing IT technology in Cambodia, prompting authorities to issue warnings and urge public vigilance.
