Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officials on Fake Telegram Accounts

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, authorities have arrested a suspect accused of creating fake Telegram accounts impersonating police chiefs and station officers to defraud citizens. The arrest was made by the Toul Kork District Police Inspectorate. According to the Information and Rapid Reaction Team of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner, on the afternoon of September 11, 2026, at 3:02 PM, specialized forces of the Toul Kork District Police Inspectorate, in cooperation with the Meanchey District Police Inspectorate, arrested one suspect. The suspect is accused of fraud using technology (creating fake Telegram accounts impersonating district police chiefs and station chiefs to defraud citizens). The arrest took place at a rented room, Room 2, House 26, Concrete Road, Group 9, Prek Ta Kong 3 Village, Chak Angre Loeu Commune, Meanchey District, Phnom Penh. The suspect has been identified as Sok Sovannvisa, male, 35 years old, with an undetermined occupation. He resides in rented Room 2, House 26, Concrete Road, Group 9, Prek Ta Kong 3 Village, Chak Angre Loeu Commune, Meanchey District. Following the arrest, authorities seized one mobile phone, an itel brand. Currently, the suspect and the seized evidence are being temporarily detained at the Toul Kork District Police Inspectorate for further legal proceedings.
