Cambodia Awards Over 1,000 Vocational Training Scholarships to Youth from Poor and Vulnerable Families

The National Institute of Business (NIB) has announced the provision of over 1,035 vocational training scholarship opportunities in 10 specialized fields for young individuals from poor and vulnerable families. This initiative is part of the government's "1.5 Million TVET Program." The 10 fields of expertise offered by NIB include Computer Graphic Design, Computer Services, Administrative Services, Customer Services, Digital Technology Installation and Implementation, Computer Network Installation and Maintenance, Business Creation and Entrepreneurship, Online Sales Services, Pastry Production, and Beverage Business. To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must be at least 15 years old and possess a Khmer identity card or birth certificate. Furthermore, students who present a poverty card (Level 1 or Level 2) or a vulnerable family identification card will receive additional monthly stipends. This support aims to alleviate financial burdens and enable students to focus on their studies. The NIB plans to commence training courses sequentially starting in early August and has opened registration from the date of this announcement. The vocational and technical training program targeting approximately 1.5 million youth from poor and vulnerable families across the country was initiated by former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in 2023 and officially launched by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on November 14, 2023. This program represents a significant step towards expanding employment opportunities and fostering economic independence for Cambodian youth.
