Amidst volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption impacting some airports, Indonesian Railways (KAI) has added two extra train services from Solo and Yogyakarta to Jakarta, aiming to facilitate public mobility. This move supports citizens' travel needs.
Amidst the ongoing impact of volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption, which has affected several airports, Indonesian Railways (KAI) Daop 6 Yogyakarta has introduced two additional train services connecting Solo and Yogyakarta to Jakarta. This strategic move is designed to bolster public mobility and provide a crucial alternative for citizens needing to travel between these regions. Feni Novida Saragih, Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, confirmed the deployment of these extra services on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The two special trains are scheduled as follows: - Extra Train Solo-Gambir: This service operates from Solo Balapan Station to Gambir Station, with a departure time of 17:20 WIB. It is equipped with a capacity of 350 executive class seats. - Extra Train Yogyakarta-Gambir: This service runs from Yogyakarta Station to Gambir Station, departing at 22:00 WIB. It comprises 200 executive class seats and 240 economy class seats. "The addition of these journeys is expected to provide a transportation alternative for the public wishing to continue their travel or activities from Solo and Yogyakarta to the Jakarta area and its surroundings," stated Saragih. This measure aims to mitigate disruptions caused by potential air travel limitations due to volcanic ash. KAI Daop 6 has issued an advisory for all train passengers, emphasizing the importance of safety and compliance with instructions from station and train personnel. For real-time updates and travel information, customers are directed to utilize the KAI121 Contact Center and KAI121's official social media channels. "KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta will continue to monitor the developing situation, coordinate with relevant stakeholders, and provide further information to our customers," Saragih added, highlighting the company's commitment to passenger welfare and operational continuity.
