Myanmar President Backs Cambodia's Peaceful Resolution of Border Dispute with Thailand

Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing has declared full support for Cambodia's stance on resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute peacefully, in accordance with international law and existing mechanisms. This was announced by Senate Spokesperson Chea Thireth at a press conference on the results of the summit between Cambodia's Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, held on the afternoon of September 11, 2026, at the Senate's Peace Palace. According to Chea Thireth, during the meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Min Aung Hlaing, both sides discussed bilateral relations between Cambodia and Myanmar and shared views on several regional issues. During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, which has dragged on for over two years. He stated that the Thai side continues to illegally violate and occupy Cambodian territory, and that these persistent actions by the Thai side have drawn significant international attention. Samdech Techo explained the historical context of Thailand's continued violations against Cambodia, even after ceasefire agreements. Concurrently, the Acting Head of State of Cambodia emphasized the importance of resolving this border dispute peacefully and in accordance with international law, and firmly protested the illegal occupation of Cambodian territory by the Thai side. Chea Thireth further stated, "His Excellency Min Aung Hlaing strongly supports Cambodia's position in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute peacefully. His Excellency hopes that this border dispute will return to normalcy, stability, and peace along the border."
