Myanmar President Backs Peaceful Resolution of Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute

Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing has announced his full support for Cambodia's position on resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute peacefully, in accordance with international law and existing mechanisms. This was stated by the Senate spokesperson. The announcement by the Myanmar President came during a meeting with Senate President Hun Sen on September 11, while President Min Aung Hlaing was on a visit to Cambodia. The two sides discussed relations between the two countries in many sectors. During the meeting, Senate President Hun Sen reiterated the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, which has been ongoing for approximately two years. He pointed out that the Thai side continues to illegally occupy Cambodian territory, violating international law. He stated that these actions by the Thai side are attracting significant attention from the international community. Ek Odom Chea Thireth, Senate spokesperson, said after the meeting that "Samdech Techo (Hun Sen) explained the reasons why the Thai side continues to violate Cambodia's territory to this day, despite the ceasefire agreements." Furthermore, Samdech Techo emphasized the importance of resolving this border dispute peacefully and firmly protested the illegal occupation of Cambodian territory by the Thai side. The spokesperson stated, "His Excellency Min Aung Hlaing truly strongly supports Cambodia's stance in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute peacefully. He hopes that this border dispute will return to normalcy, stability, and peace along the border." The spokesperson also added that regarding the border dispute between the two countries, no leader visiting Cambodia overlooks the violations by the Thai side against Cambodia.
