India Funds Quick Impact Projects in Cambodia's Kratie Province

The Ministry of Information of Cambodia and the Indian Embassy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide funding from the Indian government for two Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in Kratie province, Cambodia, on the afternoon of July 10, 2026. The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Information, presided over by H.E. Net Pheaktra, Minister of Information and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Kratie Province, and Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The two projects include: (1) a project to distribute bicycles to support the education of underprivileged students in the community, Phase 2, and (2) a beekeeping project for farmers facing livelihood challenges in Kratie province. These projects will have a duration of 12 months and will be implemented in O' Krang Sen Chey district, Kratie province, under the leadership and coordination of the QIP implementation team of the Secretariat of State for International Cooperation Coordination (SSICC) of the Ministry of Information. The bicycle distribution project aims to enhance the education of underprivileged students who have to travel long distances to school. It is expected to reduce student dropout rates, encourage regular attendance, alleviate financial and time burdens for families, improve students' health, contribute to environmental conservation, and ultimately enhance educational outcomes. Specifically, 200 sets of bicycles, helmets, and eco-friendly water bottles will be provided to 200 underprivileged students at the primary education level in target schools within Kratie province. In addition to receiving these items, the beneficiaries will undergo training on road traffic laws, road safety, and bicycle maintenance to ensure the positive impact and sustainability of the project. The beekeeping project aims to increase farmers' income through beekeeping, promote climate-resilient agriculture, and explore market access for farmers. This initiative will provide initial capital, materials, and training to 30 beneficiary farming households, primarily women and youth, in targeted areas of Kratie province for experimental beekeeping. These farmers will acquire skills in proper beekeeping techniques, pest management, financial planning, small business management, record-keeping, production planning, beekeeper network building, and market linkage. Both projects are expected to contribute to reducing poverty rates, improving education in remote rural areas, building life skills and capacity, strengthening farmers' resilience to climate change, and supporting socio-economic and environmental development, as well as infrastructure in rural areas. Furthermore, the projects will encourage transparent, equitable, and responsible community participation. During the MOU signing ceremony, H.E. Net Pheaktra stated, "The signing ceremony between the Ministry of Information and the Indian Embassy today is a significant step in continuing the support from the Government of the Republic of India to the Ministry of Information to jointly strengthen our efforts in addressing the challenges faced by communities at the local level."
