Online Scam Suspects Arrested in Phnom Penh Condo Raid

Authorities in Phnom Penh have arrested 55 suspects in a raid on a condominium, investigating alleged online scam activities. The operation was reportedly triggered by a report from the condominium owner. The crackdown was carried out on the afternoon of July 27, 2026, by a joint force from the Administrative Command of Chamkar Mon District and the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration. According to officials, the raid was initiated after the condominium owner reported suspicions of illegal cyber fraud activities taking place within the building. Under the direct leadership of Mr. Sok Pheng Vuth, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh, and Mr. Kien Lak, Governor of Chamkar Mon District, with coordination from Mr. Thong Ratana, Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, the Hun Yuu Profiti condominium was inspected. During the inspection, 11 rooms suspected of being used for online scam operations were discovered. A total of 55 suspects, including 7 women, were apprehended. Additionally, three individuals were arrested for illegal overstaying. The operation also resulted in the seizure of various items believed to be involved in the criminal activities, including 88 laptops, 9 all-in-one desktop computers, 330 mobile phones, 7 Wi-Fi routers, and 1 tablet. All foreign suspects and the seized evidence have been transferred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner's Office for further legal proceedings. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges Cambodia faces with the rise of cybercrime and the authorities' efforts to combat it. The use of high-rise condominiums as bases for criminal organizations has been a recurring concern.
