Jakarta Governor Asks Malls to Remove High Fences, Citing Security Concerns

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has responded to the phenomenon of several shopping centers or malls in the capital city installing high fences in front of their buildings. The installation of these fences has recently drawn attention and sparked widespread discussion. Pramono stated that the installation of fences might stem from security concerns. However, he plans to ask mall management to dismantle these fences. "Regarding the installation of fences, I have also observed it. It might be part of their concerns, but at the appropriate time, I will certainly ask for those fences to be removed again," Pramono told reporters in Blok M, South Jakarta (Jaksel), on Friday (31/7). According to Pramono, excessive worry can create an unfavorable atmosphere. To ensure Jakarta's security, he admitted to continuously coordinating with the TNI, Polri, and other law enforcement agencies. "Because excessive worry is also not good. And as the Governor of Jakarta, coordinating with the TNI, Polri, and other law enforcement agencies, we will protect Jakarta," Pramono revealed. Pramono suspected that the concerns of some parties might be related to the riots that occurred in August last year. Nevertheless, he believes that the current condition of Jakarta remains safe. "Yes, concerns like last August, but hopefully not. I am sure it won't happen, I am sure it won't happen," he explained. He expressed hope that Jakarta's security and comfort would be maintained, allowing residents and visitors to carry out their activities without worry. "Hopefully, Jakarta will always be safe, comfortable, and bring joy to anyone who is here to enjoy Jakarta, just as we are all enjoying Blok M today," Pramono concluded.
