Jakarta Governor to Request Mall Owners Remove High Fences

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated his intention to request the removal of high fences erected by several shopping malls in the capital city. These fences have become a subject of public discussion. Speaking to reporters in Blok M, South Jakarta, on Friday (31/7/2026), Governor Anung said, "Regarding the installation of fences, I have also been observing. It might be part of concerns, but at the appropriate time, I will definitely ask for those fences to be removed." He emphasized that excessive worry is not beneficial and assured that he, along with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and other law enforcement agencies, will continue to safeguard Jakarta. The governor suggested that these concerns might be related to the aftermath of the unrest experienced last August. However, he expressed confidence in Jakarta's safety. "Yes, there might be concerns like in August last year, but hopefully not. I am confident it won't happen," he stated. Governor Anung concluded by expressing his hope that Jakarta remains always safe, comfortable, and a place that brings joy to all who visit and enjoy it.
