Myanmar Junta Leader to Visit Cambodia

Myanmar's Chairman of the State Administration Council, Min Aung Hlaing, will make a state visit to Cambodia from September 11-12, 2026, at the invitation of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia. During the visit, Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to hold a summit with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the interim Head of State, and engage in bilateral discussions with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia. The leaders of both nations will discuss strengthening closer bilateral relations and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. They will also exchange views on various regional and international issues of common concern. The Myanmar leader will also lay wreaths at the Independence Monument and the monument of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk "Preah Borom Ratanak Koad", the former King of Cambodia and Father of National Independence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the state visit of Min Aung Hlaing underscores the common objective to further strengthen the warm friendship between the two countries and peoples. This visit occurs amidst complex diplomatic relations concerning the situation in Myanmar within the ASEAN region. Cambodia, having previously held the ASEAN chairmanship, has played a role in promoting stability and dialogue within the region. While there are varying stances within ASEAN regarding relations with Myanmar's military junta, Cambodia has maintained a stance of seeking problem resolution through dialogue.
