Myanmar President to Hold Talks with Cambodian Leaders on State Visit

PHNOM PENH, Sept 10, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian leaders are set to hold talks with Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing during his state visit to Phnom Penh this week, as the two countries look to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation. Min Aung Hlaing will visit Cambodia from September 11 to 12 at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the visit, he will hold a summit meeting with Acting Head of State Hun Sen and bilateral talks with Prime Minister Hun Manet. The leaders are expected to discuss ways to deepen relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, while also exchanging views on regional and international issues. The Myanmar president is scheduled to lay wreaths at Cambodia’s Independence Monument and at the Royal Statue of former King Norodom Sihanouk, the late King‑Father of Cambodia. Cambodian analyst Gnel Rattha said the agenda is likely to focus on strengthening ties in trade, economic cooperation, inter‑parliamentary relations and regional dialogue through ASEAN. "They will focus on enhancing bilateral trade, economic cooperation, inter‑parliamentary ties, and regional dialogue within the ASEAN framework,” he said. Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said the visit reflects the two countries’ intention to expand cooperation across a range of sectors. “This visit demonstrates the strong ties between the two nations and aims to boost and strengthen cooperation between the two countries,” he told KPT English. Officials said the trip is expected to reinforce longstanding ties between Cambodia and Myanmar and signal their commitment to closer cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
